English Summary
Solidarity Fund for R-C Prison Chaplains in the Netherlands
Information
Just about 40 Roman Catholic prison chaplains work in the Dutch Custodial Institutions Agency (Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen): Remand centres, minimum to high security prisons voor adults, correctional institutions for juvenile offenders, forensic psychiatric centres and detention centres for foreign nationals living illegally in the country, individuals who have been refused entry at the border and drugs couriers.
The Solidarity Fund for R-C prison chaplains supports the prison chaplains in their often burdening jobs. In particular when such work includes the involvement of projects for inmates that are not subsidized or funded by the government. For instance, these projects could include the supply and/or distribution of books of prayers, reading out books for children, meditation classes and Bible classes. Even individual applications from inmates could - through the prison chaplain - be granted by the fund.
On this website you'll find an overview of the projects the fund made possible in the past few years. Hopefully the images will give you a general idea, despite the fact that the text is written in Dutch.
The board members of the Solidarity Fund are volunteers: actual or former prison chaplains. Hence, the donations received by the fund can be spent in full on the work of the prison chaplains and their parishioners (the incarcerated men, women and juveniles), with the exception of some minor costs.
